In most African countries, smallholder families are struggling to make more productive use of their farmland. Most are currently unable to produce enough, either to feed their families an adequate nutritional diet, or to sell in the market and generate sufficient income to meet other needs. Those who can are demotivated by market inconsistencies caused by the relatively low public sector investments while the private sector has shied away from heavy investment in these rural communities given the fragmentation of known demand. Given the speed of population growth and effects of climate change we need a new paradigm – sooner rather than later. We recognize the immense opportunities presented in these challenges and set up The Wanda Agriculture Group in 2011 and have grown and evolved to offer various products and services aimed at addressing these challenges of low productivity and fragmented value chains.
